  • What does Hedgerow Cabaret mean?
If you stop for a moment near a hedgerow you will discover that it doesn't stay still! Suddenly song will burst forth, leaves will rustle, and flashes of wing dart in and out like a whirlwind feathery dance. I love how that a bird's life is all a big show each step of the way, singing for their territory, serenading a potential mate and the 'Ta da! Look at the nest I have built for you!' Birds live such a fascinating life and survive all sorts of obstacles, and so with my love to create I'd like to share with you a variety of arts and crafts to celebrate these little tenacious beings.
  • What payment methods do you take?
    Paypal
  • Do you post outside the UK?
For the present time, Hedgerow Cabaret is for UK customers only. Due to Covid-19 I have made the decision to keep postage to UK only, but with the outlook to expand to worldwide postage in the future. Thank you for your patience.
  • What is your processing time?
Your order will take 1-3 business working days to process and will be posted by 2nd Class Royal Mail delivery service.
  • What materials do you use for your art work?
I am a huge advocate of traditional mediums, watercolours and pencil in particular. I originally started out an avid acrylic painter even though I throughly enjoyed the watercolour works of other artists. I made it my mission to learn how to improve my non existant skills with watercolours and after many trials and plenty of errors I've finally reached a happy place and it is now a firm favourite medium. All of my illustration work is 90% organic, 10% digital. I use Adobe Photoshop and my Artist 12 xp-pen graphics tablet to refine an image ready for print.
  • Do you take commissions?
Absolutely, I love creating individual pieces for clients. Sometimes an original painting or drawing is the perfect gift for someone and I'd love to help bring a smile to their face. I am also available for the following items - Invitation design - Letterhead design - Logo design - Editorial illustration - Children's illustration Please feel free to email any questions you may have to: hedgerowcabaret@outlook.com
  • Did you study art?
Yes I did. In fact all of my further education has been art related My qualifications are: - BTEC National Certificate in Fine Art - ABC Foundation Diploma in Art & Design - BA (hons) Visual Commuincations in Illustration Degree (University of Derby) I do however absolutely believe that if you have a passion to learn and to pursue your dreams you don't necessarily need to go to university. My two biggest tips for when you want to pursue a creative path or interest.... Absorb and surround yourself with as much visual material as possible! Collect art books, follow a wide selection of creatives on social media (but don't compare - be inspired!), go to museums and galleries, get out in nature to recharge, collect post cards. I think creatives are natural hoarders. Practise, practise, practise. Don't be discouraged if you think it's not your best, everything you will ever create is a lesson, enjoy and learn from it to move forward.
  • What inspires you?
English country landscapes (especially Sussex and Cornwall), bird song, British wildlife, flowers, the Victorians, culture between 1920's - 1960's, music from the same decades plus film scores, and antique shops.
  • How did you find your style?
I can honestly say I've never tried to find 'a style', as I always just pursue subjects that I enjoy and the look is just the way my work turns out. I tend to focus on a realistic representation of whatever it is that I'm working on, but more recently I've been enjoying a more fun simplified look for my children's illustration.
